Jane Sutter, Owner of Sutter Communications
Jane Sutter has been “wild about words” – the motto of Sutter Communications – since her mother began taking her as a toddler to the public library and reading books to her. Jane started her career as a writer, editor and publisher when she co-founded her school’s newspaper, The St. Paul Hilltopper, in the eighth grade. She grew up to be an award-winning journalist with more than 30 years of experience in writing, editing, blogging and managing at newspapers, magazines and web sites around the country.
Jane spent 13 years in top leadership roles at the Democrat and Chronicle in Rochester, N.Y., including as managing editor, deputy editorial page editor and general manager of Rochester Magazine. She is the past president of the New York State Associated Press Association. Jane founded Sutter Communications in 2015. “My specialty is using a variety of communications tools to help businesses develop strong messaging and find more clients and customers. I also have a passion for helping writers to fulfill their dream of writing and publishing a book.”
Working with writers to help them tell their personal stories is a specialty of Jane’s. She spent several years working with Dellenna Harper to co-write Dellenna’s memoir God’s Teardrop: My journey of healing from addiction and prostitution.
She has also edited non-fiction books by other authors and two novels written by her husband, Gary Brandt.
Jane is the author of three books of nostalgia and history about businesses in her hometown in Burlington, Iowa: Sutter’s Sodas Satisfy: A Memoir of 90 Years of Sutter Drug Co., Beloved Burlington: Featuring businesses you knew and loved! and Beloved Burlington Volume II. Jane holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
